Closing 18 Sept: World Kangaroo Day Writing Competition

Calling all Secondary School storytellers for the launching of this exciting Short Story Competition to celebrate World Kangaroo Day on 24th October, and the wonders of kangaroos while supporting their conservation.

Create an original short story (800 – 1500 words) that creatively explores the fascinating world of kangaroos. The stories from each participating school in 2024 will be posted on the Kangaroos Alive website and social media pages. Let’s hop to it and create stories that will make a difference to our beloved kangaroos!

Story Guidelines:

  • Focus on kangaroos' unique characteristics, behaviours, or habitats
  • Incorporate accurate facts about kangaroos
  • Draw on ideas and information from indigenous people
  • Can be any genre: non-fiction, realistic fiction, fantasy, science fiction, etc.
  • Must be appropriate for all ages

Selection Process (Initial year):

  • Secondary students submit stories to their English teachers
  • Teachers read the stories and select a range of quality stories to submit to the organisers

All submissions must be received by the last day of Term 3 for students on Wednesday, 18th September.
